Our Story
The journey behind EyeCheck.app
Can someone live with a cataract and not even know it? That’s exactly what happened to our founder, Andy. Born with a cataract in his right eye, he had no idea his vision was impaired—until a school vision screening at age eight changed everything.
Andy’s experience is far from rare. Today, roughly one in four school-aged children have undiagnosed vision problems. Even more concerning, by 2050, half of the world’s population is projected to be myopic. This ignited our mission: to make early detection of vision issues simple, accessible, and effective for everyone.
It all began with the Children Eye Screening Book — a resource created to help teachers and parents better understand and identify vision problems in children. What started as a simple guide soon laid the foundation for something greater.
It transformed into EyeCheck.app: a versatile platform empowering individuals, schools, clinics, charities, and researchers to detect vision problems early and accurately. Today, EyeCheck.app stands as a symbol of innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to a healthier, more equitable future—one vision at a time.
